MESA, AZ - There are now 38 new reasons to head to Mesa this summer as a collaborative market opens its doors to the public.
POOL opened its doors in a former Mervyn's store at Stapley Drive and Main Street Friday morning with 38 merchants.
When the $3 million renovation is completed, a grand opening will take place in early September.
Officials say as many as 20 additional merchants will join POOL at that time.
"We are perfecting our concept while we finish renovations and we're adding new merchants every day," said Brad Weinstock, CEO and co-founder of POOL.
A first of its kind in Arizona, POOL features specialty merchants selling a diverse mix of high-quality products, food and merchandise year-round, seven days a week.
The merchants include a full-service floral boutique, children's clothing boutiques, a barber shop, a vintage and modern hat shop, an art gallery, an embroidery company, fine and costume jewelers, a music company, a home décor boutique, a children's toy and book shop and a Mesa Police Department sub-station.
There will also be a coffee and tea shop.
Officials say POOL's weekly entertainment will make it a hub of activity with vendors selling authentic empanadas, tantalizing cupcakes and shaved ice.
Spaces within POOL's four areas will be dedicated or donated to local artists, musicians, comedians, dance and performing troupes and chefs hosting cooking classes.
Just some of the amenities offered include free Wi-Fi, community theater, spaces to meet friends, water features, social spaces, and an indoor/outdoor farmer's market.
