MESA, AZ - A man entered a Vietnamese restaurant in a strip mall Thursday evening and fatally shot a woman before killing himself, police said.
Police spokesman Steve Berry said Mesa police received multiple 911 calls from Phu Thanh Restaurant near Southern Avenue and Extension Road just before 6 p.m.
Berry said arriving officers found the pair dead of apparent gunshot wounds.
The dead man and woman apparently were in some type of relationship, but it is unclear if they were restaurant owners, employees or customers, he said.
Police said a third woman was caught in the gunfire and suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound to her lower body. Police don't know yet if she was a target, or was inadvertently caught in the gunfire.
Police told ABC15 a fourth person suffered minor injuries in the rush to flee the building.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
Brandon Luckett was inside a nearby barber shop.
"I didn't hear any shots, but saw a woman run out and I thought she was hurt at first," he said. "Makes you realize how precious life is. I'm going to go home to kiss my wife and kids," he said.
Berry said officers were in the beginning stages of their investigation, and he didn't immediately release any details other than saying there are no outstanding suspects.
