MESA, AZ - Three people are dead and one remains in serious condition after a two-car collision in Mesa Wednesday night.
Mesa Fire Department spokesman Forrest Smith said the accident happened around 8 p.m near Brown and Recker roads.
Smith said when crews arrived to the scene they found three victims in a mid-size SUV, and one in a full-size pickup truck.
Mesa police said in a Thursday press release that it appears the SUV was eastbound on Brown Road when the pickup truck heading west drove left of the center line and hit the SUV head-on.
The driver of the SUV, 48-year-old Barbara Woods, died at the scene. The passenger in the front seat, identified as 40-year-old Marty Woods, was taken to a Scottsdale hospital where he later died, according to police.
Police said 26-year-old Brandon Harmon was a passenger in the back seat and was taken to a Scottsdale hospital where he is listed in serious condition.
The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 46-year-old Bernard Knittel. Police said he was pronounced deceased after being taken to the hospital.
Police believe Knittel was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
