MESA, AZ - Crews are working to contain a fire burning in east Mesa.

The fire sparked at a home near US 60 and Sossaman Thursday afternoon.

Mesa Fire Department spokesman Forrest Smith said the fire has gone 'defensive' meaning crews are battling the blaze from the exterior of the building.

Air15 video showed a ladder truck pouring water onto the home creating a plume of white smoke.

Much of the roof appeared to have collapsed.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone was in the home when the fire started.
