MESA, AZ - Mesa police arrested a Mesa gang member after being notified of a man causing several disturbances at the Colonade Motel Sunday.
According to a news release, officers walking the premises for criminal activity near Main and 54th streets were alerted by the night manager that a man was banging on doors and causing a disturbance and that he wanted to prosecute him for his actions.
The officers contacted the man, who they later identified as 30-year-old Chris Tobin-Cotrell.
During initial contact, Tobin-Cotrell refused to identify himself and showed aggressive behavior toward the officers.
Tobin-Cotrell was handcuffed and allegedly attempted to head butt one of the officers while being escorted to the police car. After being placed in the car, he reportedly attempted to kick out the window and was then placed in restraints.
Police said while at the jail, he continued to show aggression, yelled gang-related slurs and threatened the officers.
Police discovered that Tobin-Cotrell is a documented member of the East Side Mesa Locos gang.
Tobin-Cotrell was charged with disorderly conduct, refusing to provide truthful name when lawfully detained, aggravated assault on law enforcement, threatening and intimidating and participating or assisting in a criminal street gang.
