MESA, AZ - A Mesa police motorcycle officer suffered broken bones after colliding with an SUV Saturday night.

Police spokesman Tony Landato said the officer was driving on Country Club Drive near Broadway Road around 10:20 p.m. when a Chevy Trailblazer turned out of a private driveway onto the road and collided with the officer.

Landato said the officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

The 21-year-old driver of the Trailblazer was the only person in the SUV and was not injured.

Landato said the driver was cited for the accident, but there were no impairment issues. He said it appeared "inattention" on the driver's part caused the collision.
