Gilbert man bound and beaten, found following morning

GILBERT, AZ - Fifty-eight-year-old Bob Schultz was found bound and beaten in his Gilbert home on February 15th.

His friend and coworker Jim Nash went to check on Schultz after he didn’t show up for work as scheduled. When he opened Schultz’s garage door he found blood all over the floor.

“Complete disarray. Blood was splattered all over the floor, walls and even on the ceiling. I followed the trail of blood into the house and found him on the couch,” Nash said.

Nash found Schultz bound with rope and wires, bleeding on the couch. Nash said the intruder used a bat to attack Schultz, who tried tirelessly to fight him off.

“His head is split open in the back, he’s all black and bruised,” Nash said.

Schultz was taken to the hospital and has been recovering in intensive care. His family said he is suffering from multiple head wounds and broken bones.

Nash believes the entire attack was set up by one of the men they tried to help in their half-way home. Schultz and Nash run nine half-way homes through their program Changes Sober Living where they help men, many of whom come from the department of corrections or who are on parole.

“Schultz told me the intruder was asking him for the money from our rent checks. Only people who come through our homes know about our payment schedule,” Nash said.

Police arrested Martin Dominguez and are looking for one more person in connection with the attack.
