GILBERT, AZ - Positive test results of bacteria that can cause a disease have led to the closure of a Gilbert school and a library, according to a Monday report.
The Town of Gilbert is expected to hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. to provide an update.
The bacteria, which can cause Legionnaire's Disease, was discovered at Perry Branch Library. The library was closed Monday.
Chandler Unified School District officials said they will also close the adjacent Perry High School buildings on Tuesday, as an extra precautionary measure.
There have been no reports of illnesses prior to the closure.
The results were reportedly discovered after a Maricopa County Library District employee tested positive for Whooping Cough. The infection, which is a different condition, prompted the testing of the facility.
The closure will allow the facility to be treated and retested.
Gilbert spokesperson Beth Lucas said an industrial hygienist will do more testing and treatment Tuesday, but it is unknown when the library or the school will reopen.
Lucas said the water system was not affected.
In a release, Gilbert's Public Works Director Lonnie Frost said, "It is important to note that our water system was safe from any impact of these samples.”
Gilbert will announce its reopening and provide updates on its website .
