CHANDLER, AZ - A woman was killed and seven others were injured in a rollover wreck on Interstate 10 in the southeast Valley Tuesday morning.
DPS said the family was returning home to Los Angeles after a vacation in Mexico when the accident occurred on westbound I-10 at milepost 164 around 5:10 a.m.
Eight people were involved in the crash involving a Chevrolet Suburban, including three adults and five children, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
DPS said the mother and driver, 33-year-old Norma Chavarria, died at the scene.
DPS Officer Robert Bailey said they do not believe any other vehicles were involved and that fatigue might have been a factor.
Bailey said three children were airlifted from the scene. He said four people were thrown from the vehicle, two were pinned underneath and one was trapped inside.
Authorities said the children were ages 15, 8, 6, 4 and 20 months. Two adult males, ages 70 and 30, were also in the vehicle. All have severe, but non-life threatening injuries.
DPS said only the driver and front passenger were wearing seatbelts. There was a baby car seat in the vehicle, but it is unclear if it was being used at the time of the accident.
All passengers were taken to Maricopa County Medical Center with the exception of one child who was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
