PHOENIX - A Chandler man has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for the death of his 7-month-old daughter.
According to a plea agreement, 23-year-old Sergio Thomas was also sentenced on Friday to lifetime probation for second-degree murder and two counts of attempted child abuse.
Thomas was arrested in December 2010 after police and firefighters responded to a call of an unresponsive girl.
The girl was taken to a local hospital where medical staff determined she had a skull fracture and bleeding from her brain. She died the next day.
According to police, Thomas admitted to beating his daughter because she kept crying and woke him up throughout the night.
At the time, Thomas was out on release from a domestic violence incident several months before that injured his wife and his daughter.
At the time of his arrest, Thomas was charged with first-degree murder and child abuse.
