CHANDLER, AZ - A hatchet-carrying homeless man is accused of breaking into a Chandler home near McQueen Road and Chandler Boulevard and attempting to sexually assault a woman who was sleeping.
Francisco Antonio Moreno, 19, was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of burglary, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and preventing the use of a telephone in an emergency.
Police say the victim was awakened by a man she didn't know pulling her pants down.
The man allegedly grabbed a hatchet that he had placed on a nightstand near the bed as the victim grabbed her cellphone. They struggled over the phone, during which time the victim's left wrist was cut by the hatchet.
The victim remembered key details about his facial features, specifically, the location of his moles. She then told police everything she could remember about his appearance.
Moreno was arrested a short time later and confessed to the crimes, saying he had slept in an abandoned home next door to the victim the night before.
