CHANDLER, AZ - Authorities say a Chandler freeway ramp was closed for several hours after a deadly rollover crash forced its closure Thursday morning.

On Friday, the Department of Public Safety identified the victim as John Steven Laufer, 59, of Chandler.

According to DPS, the crash involved two vehicles which were westbound on State Route 202 to northbound State Route 101 just after 4 a.m.

Authorities said a sedan driven by 19-year-old Anthony Lamont Riddle Jr. of Tempe tried to pass a pickup truck driven by Laufer on the ramp but lost control, striking the pickup.

The pickup truck rolled over in the crash. Laufer died at the scene.

Riddle's sedan continued on and struck the wall. Riddle was not injured.

Charges are pending a review by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
