PHOENIX - A 28-year-old mother was arrested after leading Chandler police on a pursuit while three kids slept in the back of her van, police said.
Raychel Rossel of Bapchule talked exclusively with ABC15 from the Estrella Jail on Tuesday about the incident.
“We just happened to stop at the store,” she said. “I didn’t know that was going to happen.”
Rossel’s brother walked into a 7-Eleven near downtown Chandler on Sunday and stole several beers, according to a police report, he then jumped into Rossel’s van and they drove away.
Also in the vehicle were Rossel’s friend, her friend’s 2-month-old son, her brother’s 8-month-old daughter and Rossel’s 3-year-old daughter, she said.
Rossel told ABC15 that the 3-year-old watched as police arrested all the adults.
“I wish I never did that,” she said. “I knew I was going to jail. I just wanted to hold [my daughter].”
Immediately after the theft, but before the police pursuit began, Rossel said she collided with another vehicle and continued to drive away.
She now faces endangerment and hit-and-run charges.
