CHANDLER, AZ - Federal investigators are now helping local police figure out the cause of a late night home explosion in Chandler.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived at the home Monday morning near Chandler Boulevard and Cooper Road.
Investigators tell ABC15 the explosion was intentional and "not an accident." On Tuesday, detectives said an "ignitable liquid" was used in the arson and are now trying to figure out what that liquid was.
Only smoldering rubble remains of the home that exploded around 11 p.m. Sunday.
The fire also severely damaged a neighboring home.
Glass and other debris were blown into the street.
Police spokesperson Seth Tyler said investigators have interviewed the person who lives at the home. He was not at home at the time.
Tyler told ABC15 at this point investigators are trying to determine if he had anything to do with the explosion but add they’re also looking at the possibility someone wanted to intentionally hurt the man.
Police confirm the home had no gas utility.
The impact from the explosion broke windows at nearby homes, knocked pictures off the wall and could be heard from more than a mile away.
Elizabeth Reinking lives behind the two homes and said the impact shook her home. This morning, she found debris from the homes in her yard.
“There's glass all over the backyard just littering the backyard. I even have chunks of wooden blinds that are burnt,” said Reinking.
Police are treating the area as a crime scene. Forensics crews could be seen gathering evidence.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross assisted residents in the neighboring home with temporary shelter as their home is severely damaged.
