CHANDLER, AZ - A standoff situation ended peacefully Sunday night after police were able to negotiate with a 20-year-old man barricaded inside a Chandler home.

Police spokesman Joe Favazzo said the incident started around 5:30 p.m at a home near Germann and Alma School Roads.

Favazzo said the suspect got into a fight with his 54-year-old stepfather, hit the man over the head with a handgun and tried to choke him.

Authorities said the stepfather was able to get away from the suspect and call police. The stepfather told officers there were other weapons inside the house.

A tactical unit was called in to try and establish communication with the man. Around 8:15 p.m. the suspect surrendered peacefully to police.

Favazzo said no evacuations were ordered, but streets in the area were blocked off while police tried to negotiate with the 20-year-old.

Officers said the stepfather suffered minor injuries and is expected to  be okay.

The suspect is currently in police custody. His identity has not yet been released.
