APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - A man is in extremely critical condition Wednesday night after a friend accidentally backed over him while he was unloading groceries.
Apache Junction Fire Department spokesman Dave Montogomery said the accident happened around 10:30 a.m. at a mobile home park located at 351 N. Meridian Drive.
Montgomery said three men in their 70s had just returned from a shopping trip and while two of the men were unloading groceries from the trunk of the car, the third man placed the car in reverse and backed over the two men.
When he realized what happened, the driver reportedly placed the car in drive and went over one of the victims a second time.
Montogomery said one of the men was flown to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in extremely critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The second victim was transported to Mountain Vista Medical Center in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The Apache Junction Police Department is investigating the accident.
