Postal worker impaled by fence in Apache Junction

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - A U.S. Postal Service worker is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after her mail truck ran through a fence in Apache Junction.
Pinal County sheriff's deputies say one of the fence posts penetrated the mail truck and struck the worker in the upper chest. The post went through her body and then into the seat.
Deputies have not identified the 57-year-old woman.
They say she was driving along West Houston Road on Monday when for unknown reasons the truck drifted past the right side of the road and hit a chain-link fence. The top two rail poles are what penetrated the mail truck's firewall.
Deputies say neither alcohol nor drug impairment were a factor in the crash.
