PHOENIX - Police say a man was shot in the arm as he chased a suspect who robbed him in South Phoenix Tuesday afternoon.

Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said a man and woman from out of town needed to buy tires before leaving the Valley.

Some people they met over the past few days recommended a store at Central and Southern avenues and the man and woman were told to meet them there at 4 p.m.

After meeting the couple, the suspect got into the back of their van.

Police say there was a bag of money in the back of the van and the suspect grabbed the money and ran.

The male victim chased after the person who took the money and was shot in the arm by the robber.

The woman, who was still in the van, sped after the robber who got into an SUV that was being driven by an accomplice.

The van hit the SUV, but the driver of the SUV was able to get away.

The SUV then hit another vehicle, injuring the driver of that car.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital.

Holmes said the robbery victims did not want to press charges.
