PHOENIX - Police are investigating after an 18-year-old man was shot and killed in a south Phoenix parking lot Saturday evening.
Phoenix Police Department spokesman Steve Martos said two groups of people were involved in a shooting near 16th Street and Southern Avenue around 6:45 p.m.
During the altercation, Alen Belford was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An off-duty officer working at the business complex heard the shooting and became involved in a foot pursuit with several people involved in the incident.
Martos said officers established a perimeter, utilizing K9 search teams, an air unit, and the Special Assignments Unit to search the residential area and nearby park.
During the search, police reportedly detained and questioned two people possibly involved in the shooting. They were eventually released pending further investigation.
Martos said several witnesses described those involved as black males and females.
Police are asking for the public's help to identify the suspects in Saturday's shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
