PHOENIX - Authorities said an off-duty Tolleson police officer shot and wounded an intruder in his home Tuesday afternoon.
Phoenix police said a 17-year-old used a river rock to break into the home near 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road around 3 p.m.
The commotion woke the 26-year-old officer from a nap and as he came downstairs he confronted the suspect.
Police said the suspect threatened the officer with the rock and the officer shot the suspect in the head.
The officer administered aid to the suspect and called 911.
Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said the suspect is in critical condition at a local hospital.
Crump said the officer was not injured during the incident.
Phoenix police are leading the investigation.
