PHOENIX - Police are investigating an incident that left one man with a gunshot wound and another injured in Phoenix on Wednesday.
Jonathan Jacobs with the Phoenix Fire Department said the incident occurred in the area of 50th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Leon Sexton said police got a call reporting a couple of males hanging out of a van who were car surfing.
Investigation apparently revealed the two victims were on either side of a minivan, hanging out the back windows.
At some point, the victims released from the minivan.
Sexton said one victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm, the other one received injuries from striking the pavement at approximately 40 to 45 mile per hour from the vehicle.
The minivan was then abandoned about a quarter mile south of the scene.
The occupants were reportedly seen fleeing the area and no suspects are in custody.
Sexton said police have some translators at the hospital waiting for one victim to come out of his initial surgery to be able to determine why he was shot.
Injuries to both victims are considered to be non-life threatening.
At this point, the incident is being investigated as an aggravated assault.
