PHOENIX - A West Valley family can’t figure out why anyone would take their truck with their two beloved dogs inside.
On Thursday, Brian Dieckman was on his way home and decided to stop by his wife’s job at the AutoZone on 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road.
He had his two Daschunds, Maggie and Petey, with him.
Dieckman said he knew he wasn’t going to take long, so he left the air conditioner running, locked the car and left the dogs.
Ten minutes later when he came back outside, his car and the dogs were gone.
He said thieves had broken through the driver’s side window.
“If they wanted the truck, why didn't they let the dogs out in the parking lot and take the truck?" Dieckman asked.
Dieckman refers to Maggie and Petey as his kids.
“From the outside it probably doesn't look like much is wrong, it just kind of feels like somebody has stolen half my insides,” Dieckman said.
“Whoever the heck's got them, let them come home,” he added.
Dieckman said his truck was recovered, but the thieves destroyed the inside of the cab, took the radiator and even the front seat.
As of Saturday, there were still no signs of the Maggie and Petey.
