2 arrested at Phoenix business for false identities

PHOENIX - Two employees of a Phoenix maid service are in custody, accused of using fake identifications in order get work.

According to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office news release, detectives searched the business headquarters of The Maids at 2521 E. Bell Road and seized business paperwork and computers. 

"ID theft," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said, "is a terrible problem for its victims who are legal citizens of this country and Phoenix has a bigger than most other cities as it ranks among top cities in the U.S. for the crime of stolen identities."

MCSO officials said the maid service investigation is the 57th MCSO case involving an employer sanction violation since 2008. Since then, deputies have arrested 574 people in connection with employer sanction violations, according to Arpaio.

On Wednesday afternoon The Maids responded to the search with the following statement:

The Maids of Scottsdale is cooperating with the local authorities on the arrest of two employees this morning on charges of Identity Theft.  This was the first time in 12 years of business that The Maids of Scottsdale has experienced this type of incident.  We are of course insured and bonded, and we do everything we can to ensure the safety of our employees and customers.  This is an isolated incident.  We appreciate our customers’ continued trust in our employees and our services.
