PHOENIX - A Valley church is the target of thieves before they are officially open.
The Valley Life Church is under construction in an strip mall near 27th Avenue and the Carefree Highway.
The church has been at that location since last summer and is working towards a Grand Opening on Easter Sunday.
Tuesday night, thieves broke into a back door and took two 80 inch televisions and other electronics.
They also tried to break into the office. The lock on the door was mangled.
When they failed to pry that door open, they apparently went up through the ceiling tiles, and over the wall to get to the safe.
"This is why we are here," said Pastor Brian Bowman. "There are hearts that need healing."
The church, that formed a year ago, used to operate out of a trailer in a movie theater parking lot nearby.
Several months ago the trailer was stolen.
"The stuff can be replaced," said Bowman. "We're still on target to open."
The church lost about $12,000 in cash and equipment.
