PHOENIX - A Phoenix company has started to bring jobs back to the Valley from overseas.
Daphne’s Headcovers , a home grown company that makes golf club covers, has started moving some of its production back to Phoenix from China and Indonesia.
“We've set up our production so we're fully producing here again, we're ramping up, we're hiring. I think we hired three sewers yesterday,” said co-owner Jane Spicer.
The company moved its work overseas about 10 years ago.
“There wasn't enough skilled labor, the prices were way too high,” Spicer said.
But now, the economy has impacted the company in another way.
“The cost of doing business overseas has gone up and up and up, so it's making more sense to do business here. And because of the economy, people can't order as much, which is what drove us to come back so things have gone in full circle,” Spicer said.
While the company still has workers in other countries, Spicer said she is proud to be bringing work back home.
“As I hear the whirl of the machines and the cutting presses I couldn't tell you what it means to me. I couldn't be more excited,” Spicer said.
