PHOENIX - Police say two people are dead after a single-vehicle accident in north Phoenix Friday night.
According to Phoenix police, 35-year-old Shelly Skaggs and unknown adult male were killed in the crash. Police say Skaggs' 20-year-old son is in critical condition at a Valley hospital after suffering serious injuries in the wreck.
Police say around 9:30 p.m. a 2002 Mercedes was westbound on New River Road at a high rate of speed west of Interstate 17 and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting all three occupants. The vehicle then burst into flames.
According to authorities, it appears Shelly Skaggs purchased the Mercedes earlier that day. Investigators have not been able to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Both speed and alcohol are being investigated as a possible factors contributing to the wreck.
