PHOENIX - The father of a teen accused of killing an elderly man this week in north Phoenix says he had no idea his son was involved in any criminal activity.
"I don't know what I'm going to do without him," said Carl Roberts, father of 17-year-old suspect Brandon Roberts. "He is my baby, but he did it and has to pay for what he did."
Brandon Roberts is facing first degree murder and armed robbery charges along with 17-year-old Nadeem Alferikh.
The two are accused of killing 78-year-old Milton Raffle who was on a nightly walk in the park near his home near 25th Avenue and Cactus Road.
Police say the teens were buying acid when Raffle happened upon them and then police say they stalked him and tried to rob him.
Carl Roberts said his son is remorseful.
"I told him to man up and tell the truth," he said. "The truth will always come out. I'm so sorry. The family that lost their father and grandfather... it is horrible," he said.
Police say the murder weapon was stolen in an unrelated burglary several days before. They say Alferikh is facing charges in that incident and possibly more arrests are coming for the burglary.
Police say after the shooting, Brandon Roberts went home and dismantled the gun and tried to hide it.
Police say the victim of the burglary came forward with information suspecting there was a link.
In the homicide investigation, police believe Brandon Roberts and Alferikh were the only suspects involved.
