PHOENIX - Authorities say a bicyclist was critically injured in a collision with a vehicle in north Phoenix Saturday.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Tony Mure said the vehicle with a family of four was traveling eastbound on Bell Road just before 8 p.m. when a 49-year-old man on a motorized bicycle crossed the road in front of the vehicle and was struck.

Mure said the bicyclist landed on the vehicle's windshield and was carried about 100 yards until the vehicle crashed into a short brick wall and he was thrown off.

The bicyclist was taken to a Valley hospital in critical condition, according to Mure. A 32-year-old man, 26-year-old woman and two children, ages 8 and 5, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Mure said the injuries to the bicyclist are life-threatening.
