PHOENIX - The light rail is on the move in Phoenix with an extension planned for the Northwest line.
Valley Metro expects construction to begin in 2013.
On Thursday morning signs showing off the 3.2 mile route were unveiled along 19th Avenue.
The new route will extend from the current line at 19th and Montebello avenues to Dunlap Avenue.
Valley Metro's Hillary Foose says it will be running by 2016 at the latest, which is seven years ahead of projections.
The region was able to secure the funds early.
Foose said support will be provided to residents and businesses in the area impacted by construction.
There will be a public meeting on September 18, 2012 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Orangewood Elementary School. There's more information on the Northwest extension on Valley Metro's website.
