PHOENIX - Family and friends gathered at Temple Chai in Phoenix Sunday afternoon to remember 48-year-old Steven Lawrence Singer, who was killed in a shooting last Wednesday at an office building near 16th Street and Glendale Avenue.

More than 1,000 family and friends came to pay their respects to Singer. The turnout was so big, organizers at the temple didn’t have enough chairs to accommodate. Friends said the number of people who came is a reflection of the wonderful man Singer was.

“My husband and I didn’t realize when we were sending our kids to the Singer’s house, that he was treating the kids like his own. They will just miss him so much. It was a life ended way too soon,” said family friend Deborah Brewer.

“He was a kind and fun dad who always treated his sons the best. We will miss him so much,” said Abby Brewer.

Investigators said Singer, along with his lawyer Mark Hummels , who also passed away from injuries in the shooting, were targeted because of a legal dispute with the shooter, 70-year-old Arthur Harmon.

The tragedy has brought Singer’s family to help find a solution to gun violence. They are asking for donations in his memory to Mark Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords’ organization, Americans for Responsible Solutions .

Singer is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lisa and his two sons Ryan and Cory.
