PHOENIX - An 18-year-old motorcyclist lost his life Tuesday night after colliding with a car in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes said the accident happened around 6:20 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.
Holmes said the man was traveling westbound on Union Hills Drive approaching 19th Avenue when he accelerated to make the light at the intersection and collided with a Honda waiting to turn north.
Police said the man was transported to the hospital where he later died.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
The intersection of 19th Avenue and Union Hills was closed for hours while officers worked to clear the scene.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
