PHOENIX - A woman driving a 1997 Saturn rammed her car through a security gate Thursday night at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and drove out onto an active runway.
Phoenix police said the woman appeared to be impaired and had a small child in the car with her.
The vehicle appeared to have crashed into the fence parallel to 44th Street near Air Lane around 10 p.m. Thursday.
Officers performed a PIT maneuver to bring the car to a stop within minutes of the security breach.
Neither the driver nor the child were injured, according to police.
Airport operations were disrupted for approximately 15 minutes while police investigated; however, officers stated they were not aware of any flights that were affected.
The driver was being questioned late Thursday night.
