PHOENIX - Phoenix has reportedly taken a dive in popularity as one of the most popular cities to move to in America, according to a recent Forbes report.
From 2000 to 2009, the top 10 cities with the largest net gains included Phoenix, taking the top spot, Riverside, Calif., Atlanta, Dallas- Ft. Worth and Las Vegas.
These places are still seeing migration and growth, but Dallas has reportedly taken Phoenix's number one spot since then, according census data.
Even more surprisingly, Phoenix has dropped off the top 10 list altogether.
Forbes says that Texas has seen the most growth with Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio taking first, third, fifth and eighth place on the list.
Miami, Washington D.C. and Seattle also took spots in the top 10, removing Las Vegas from the list as well.
Forbes says that "a strong economy has to be based on something more than gaming, tourism and home construction. Energy, technology, manufacturing and trade are far preferable as an economic base."
Larger cities like New York, Chicago and Detroit were among those that had the highest net migration losses.
Other cities like New Orleans gained in popularity since the last study, showing more surprising changes in immigration, economy, demographics and strengths among different regions of the country.
