PHOENIX - The taxpayer cost of illegal immigration is one of the most controversial topics surrounding Arizona's border battle.
This week, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, issued a new report, estimating the cost with a state-by-state breakdown.
In Arizona, FAIR said the total price tag is roughly $2.7 billion.
The report added the estimated total for several categories including education, healthcare, the justice system, tax receipts and more.
However, it's not clear where much of data was collected.
Experts said those figures are tough to prove, including an Arizona State University researcher with the Morrison Institute, which also publishes studies on immigration-related topics.
