PHOENIX - Police are investigating a double homicide at an apartment in Phoenix.
A 4-month-old baby was found alive near the bodies and has been taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
The homicide happened at the Franmar Manor apartment complex, near 38th Avenue and McDowell Road.
Police say a neighbor heard gunshots and called 911 around 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the front door to the apartment wide open.
They discovered the bodies of 21-year-old Alexis Garcia and 17-year-old Fabian Venezuela in a bedroom, according to Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes.
“Someone decided to take the law or jealousy into their own hands,” said Garcia’s father. “God forgive them, because I won’t," he said.
Valenzuela's aunt Yvonne Gallegos agreed. “It's a sad situation that somebody can be killed over jealousy," she said.
Police said the baby was found in the same bedroom unharmed.
"Messy, brutal," Holmes said about the scene.
Police said they do not believe this shooting was random but did not release information on possible leads or suspect(s).
"There's a lot of evidence inside that officers and detectives are looking at that indicates that an unknown suspect committed this horrible, horrible offense this morning," Holmes said.
Carmella Martinez, a close friend of the female victim, said she had two children but the other child was not there.
Martinez said loved ones are in pain thinking about the baby without a mother.
"That's sad. I hope they find the person who did this," Martinez said in tears. "How could they be with no remorse and just kill somebody with their baby? They wouldn't want that to happen to them. Nobody should be taking somebody's mother, especially a 4-month-old baby that just got brought into this world."
