PHOENIX - A teenager remains in 'extremely critical condition' after he was walking across the street and was struck by a vehicle late Friday night.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said an 18-year-old male, along with two friends, was crossing the street at Glendale and 27th Avenues around 11 p.m. Friday night.
A 25-year-old driver in a 1995 Lincoln Town car was passing through the intersection on a green light and struck the teenager, said Thompson. The other two pedestrians were able to move out of the way.
The teenager was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition, said Thompson. Police previously reported that the teenager had died.
Police said the driver was not impaired, but did not have a driver's license, which resulted in his car being impounded.
Police are still investigating. The name of the victim was not released.
