PHOENIX - A Valley non-profit organization is promoting Buy Local Week through Sunday, helping businesses in the Valley as they offer special discounts and hold events to get people to shift the way they shop.

According to Local First AZ, when a shopper spends $100 in a locally-owned store, $73 stays in the local economy. When a shopper spends $100 in a non-locally owned store, $43 stays in the local economy.

Money from sales taxes help support public safety and education.

Georgeanne Bryant, who owns Frances and Smeeks stores in Phoenix, says there are many benefits to shopping locally.

You can find things you wouldn't find any place else and it keeps people employed, she said.

Bryant is holding Crafeteria Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Frances parking lot.  The community can attend this free event and meet with Valley artists who created decorations in the Frances Holiday Store.

To find out what deals are being offered, visit Buy Local Week .
