Jonathan Peters' father pleads to find shooter who killed son on way to McDonald's

PHOENIX - A random shooting took an 18-year old man's life during a fast food run in Phoenix, and the victim's family believes there is someone holding onto information they need.

The victim's father, Daniel Peters, says he misses his son every day. He has a tattoo of Jonathan's face on his right arm, a tribute to a young man who died shortly after graduating high school.

"My son was my right arm," Peters said. "He was part of me. I don't know how I'm going to make it through life without him. I really don't."

Jonathan Peters was killed on his way to return a wrong order at a McDonald's in Phoenix on June 2, 2012, near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.

On his way, someone fired multiple shots at the car. A bullet struck him in the head and later killed him. 

Jonathan's cousins were in the car at the time, but it happened too fast. They didn't see anything, Peters said.

It appears detectives are stuck. No new information has been released in the past six months.

No witnesses have come forward, but Peters is holding out hope.

"I believe that someone is going to have a heart," Peters said.

Detectives told Peters that a 911 caller reported the incident that night but didn't leave a name or contact information.

The number turned out to be bad when they tried to call back, said Sgt. Darren Burch with Silent Witness.

Peters said he thinks that caller may hold the tip that police need to break this case. Peters is not resting until his family sees some justice.

"Our family's never going to be the same and that's where I need closure. I need to know that this person is caught," he said.

Peters continues to keep Jonathan's memory alive by sharing his story.

"He was one of those people that you could never get mad at," he said. "From the time he was little, he would just smile at (you)."
