PHOENIX - A new football helmet designed and developed with the help of many local companies will be making its debut on high school football fields.

Pro-Cap is a safety accessory that utilizes "soft-shell technology."  The light weight urethane foam is fitted over a regular football helmet and offers additional protection to prevent concussions.

"There are changes being made to regulations to prevent helmet to helmet contact," said Tom Woodward who represents Pro-Cap.  "This is the only thing that is moving upstream to prevent the concussions from happening in the first place."

Already one Valley high school will be using the helmets.   The technology just recently was approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations.  Woodward believes that the new helmet has great potential for not only high school but for college and even professional sports.
