PHOENIX - Police say a robbery suspect known as the “Calligraphy Bandit” has been arrested.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said in an e-mail that 25-year-old Tomas Garcia-Mancinas was arrested last Friday at a home near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Crump said search warrants were served after his arrest and detectives found three different weapons believed to have been used in the robberies.

Garcia-Mancinas is accused of robbing at least 13 pharmacies in the metro Phoenix area during the months of November, December and January.

He got the nickname “Calligraphy Bandit” because he would give the victim a hand written note demanding oxycodone.

The suspect was armed with a handgun and was becoming more aggressive as he committed more robberies, according to police.

Garcia-Mancinas was booked into jail on numerous felony charges related to the robberies, Crump said.
