PHOENIX - Authorities say two Phoenix police officers were injured in a crash between two patrol cars in downtown Phoenix Saturday.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos said the accident occurred at 15th Avenue and Washington Street around 5 p.m. when both officers approached the intersection and one officer may have stepped on the gas instead of the brake when attempting to stop for a red light.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Jacobs said the officers were transported to two Phoenix hospitals, one complaining of chest pain and the other of back pain.
Martos said a 16-year-old riding in the patrol car with his father also suffered minor injuries.
Saturday night one officer and the teen were released from the hospital. Martos said the officer who is the father of the 16-year-old would remain hospitalized overnight.
