PHOENIX - Authorities say a Phoenix convenience store owner has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the federal food stamp program.

They say Joo Ho Yi is being held on suspicion of committed 10 intentional violations of the food stamps program by illegally purchasing the benefits from EBT cards.

Yi owns the New Star Market. Investigators say more than $500 in cash, five bags of marijuana and half an ounce of methamphetamine allegedly were provided to people in exchange for more than $4,000 in foot stamp benefits.

Federal authorities say fraud against the food stamp program exceeded $6,000 from Yi's store.

He was booked Thursday into Maricopa County Jail on charges of unlawful use of food stamps, sale of a dangerous drug and sale of marijuana.
