PHOENIX - Police say a deadly fire last week at a central Phoenix apartment is now being investigated as a homicide.

The victim in the incident has been identified as 56-year-old Bruce Gaudet.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Frank Salomon said four units were involved in the first alarm fire at 16th Street and Maryland Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Arson investigators worked the scene with Phoenix homicide investigators and eventually classified the investigation as a homicide, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

No other details were released.

Air15 video showed smoke pouring from the structure and crews cutting holes in the roof.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
