Phoenix Police book mental health patient into jail after assaulting EMT, escaping from vehicle

PHOENIX - A psychiatric patient escaped from his restraints during transport and assaulted a medical technician before running free into the surrounding neighborhood Thursday.

According to a news release, Robert Mitchell, 29, was being transported from Urgent Psychiatric Care at 903 N. 2nd St. in Phoenix to another facility in a private ambulance.

Mitchell broke free, assaulted a 22-year-old EMT in the vehicle and fled the vehicle. After an extensive search by Phoenix Police, detectives and canine, he was apprehended and booked into jail.

Phoenix Police say he is said to be violent and dangerous to others.

He was booked for aggravated assault and two counts of first degree trespassing, both felonies.
