PHOENIX - Phoenix police have identified the 18-year-old suspect who they say admitted to abusing his girlfriend’s daughters, killing one of them early Saturday morning.
According to Sgt. Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department, the suspect was identified as Martwain Mackey. He has been charged with first degree murder and two counts of child abuse.
A 3-year-old girl was found dead at a payphone around 2 a.m. on Denton Lane near 15th and Missouri avenues, Martos said.
The girl died of severe trauma.
Her 1-year-old sister was also abused and is in a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Martos said.
The 18-year-old mother of the children reportedly told police she was working late at a restaurant, came home, and went to bed.
Martos said the mother told police she didn’t hear anything going on between her boyfriend and her daughters.
The mother is not facing any charges at this time.
