PHOENIX - Phoenix mother Desiree Lynette Harris was arrested for child abuse and drug possession Monday night.
According to court documents, 24-year-old Harris was arrested for providing an unsafe environment for her children and exposing them to marijuana while they were with her.
She allegedly smoked marijuana in her apartment while her children ages 9, 7 and 5 were also inside.
There were multiple knives and drug paraphernalia within reach of the children.
Court documents state that an officer contacted the apartment regarding an armed robbery incident and noticed an “intense odor of marijuana."
Harris then stated that smoking marijuana in her apartment was not illegal.
During the incident, Harris reportedly became aggressive and belligerent and had to be placed in a police car for her safety and so she would not interfere with the investigation of the robbery.
Harris was transported and booked for charges of child abuse and drug paraphernalia possession and use.
