PHOENIX - A 35-year-old construction worker was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after falling eight feet into a trench on Saturday.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the worker was standing near loose soil when the incident occurred near 29th and Northern avenues.

The worker moved into a deeper part of the trench that was approximately 15 feet down to avoid more soil falling on him.

The worker was alert and stabilized by Phoenix FD crews before being lifted out.
