PHOENIX - Apartments were evacuated as police searched for and caught a suspect in a Phoenix neighborhood on Friday.

Police at the scene near 17th Street and Oak said a man encountered another man in the area when they got into an altercation.

During the altercation, the one of the men allegedly fired a gunshot toward the ground. No injuries were reported, but police and SWAT were called in and set up a perimeter in the area to find the suspect.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson said apartments west and north of the apartment in which police believe the suspect resides were evacuated. A police K9 was also used in a search.

A group of officers was then seen from overhead Air15 running down the street to a nearby home where the suspect was reportedly hiding. Three people were seen handcuffed in a yard and one of them was walked by an officer off the property.

It has not been confirmed if that person was the suspect police were trying to find, but officers at the scene said the suspect was taken into custody.
