PHOENIX - Three people were killed in a house fire early Sunday morning in Phoenix, according to authorities.

Fire crews responded to the fire on 14th Avenue just south of Buckeye Road around 3:30 a.m., said Phoenix fire Capt. Scott McDonald.

Two men and an elderly woman were confirmed dead, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

One woman was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns, McDonald said.

The woman who survived allegedly woke up to screams from the elderly woman, who was yelling that she was on fire, Martos said.

A passerby reportedly heard the screaming from the home and tried to help.

He somehow helped pull the bars off a window and pulled the woman, who survived, out of the house, according to ABC15 crews on scene. The roof collapsed before managing to get anyone else out.

Investigators learned the residents did not have power to the home for some time and may have been using candles for light.

Officials said the fire department's arson investigator does not believe this fire to be suspicious at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
