PHOENIX - A suspected drunk driver who allegedly caused a multi-vehicle wreck and fled the scene in Phoenix was caught on Friday night.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Steve Martos said the 32-year-old male suspect was driving a green 1997 Ford Expedition westbound on Thomas Road around 10 p.m. when he failed to stop for a red traffic signal at 55th Avenue and Thomas.
The suspect's vehicle reportedly collided with a 2003 red Chevrolet Cavalier, which then collided with a 2002 white Chevrolet Avalanche that was stopped at the red light facing eastbound.
After the crash, Martos said the suspect driving the Expedition got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the neighborhood.
A perimeter was set up around the neighborhood and the suspect was reportedly stopped and arrested by an alert patrol officer on scene two hours after the collision.
Martos said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital to be treated for a minor injury.
The man driving the Cavalier remains hospitalized in extremely critical condition as of Saturday. The man driving the Avalanche sustained minor injury.
